Black and Silver tells the story of a dwarf's infatuation with the infanta of Spain. He is duped by the mocking attentions of the princess, and after she deserts him he discovers the silver mirror which reveals his true ugliness. This is the essence of the story Oscar Wilde wrote after seeing Velasquez's painted courtscene: 'Las Meninas'. The film is an oneiric fantasy in pursuit of reflections and duplicates. It sets the fairy tale in a beachscape with the dwarf and infanta played by the same person, and follows the princess's return to the Palace where the elements of Velasquez's painting are woven into a bizarre play.
