Defining Circles as a women-only distributor did not mean that Circles operated outside of a network of other film making and distributing practises in London, in the UK or internationally.
It increased visibility of women's work and defined a stronger position for women
filmmakers to work from, a position that was continually being reassessed and transforming.
Other filmmakers described things they had done together, one woman said
how when they were at the London Filmmakers Co-op in the 80s there was this
sort of yard in the back of the building. One day she was there eating blackberries
from the bushes, and Sandra appeared and said 'nothing, nothing but blackberries' and
proceeded to munch on them together all covered in purple juices.
