About sound...
The cameras we have dealt with are all silent cameras and non synch. So don't look for the volume button on them! Initial filmmakers often used what is known as 'wild track' sound for their films. This can involve simply playing a CD or tape along side the film to match the mood, or asking your musician mates to play along side live! Synch sound is a whole other matter and needs more careful planning, organisation and.... a sound person!

Now out of print but very useful for the low budget film-maker if you can get hold of it.
