Gente di Milano

Between 11:58AM amd 12:01 PM at a chosen site in Milan near the Galleria Francoise Lambert, where David Lamelas was invited to mount a solo exhibition, a short film was shot with a stationary camera documenting everything that happened to enter its angle of view. At the same time, eleven photographs were taken at regular intervals. Once again lamelas juxtaposes the continuously connected course of film time with the fragmented gaze of the photographic lens. The privacy of the gallery space is confronted with the immediate, everyday environs of the urban situation.

"I looked at the movie camera as if it was taking possession of the space in front of it. And becuase it was my space, I decided to take a picture of everybody who walked in front of my space, like a surveillance camera.'DL.

David Lamelas - A New Refutation of Time, Kunstverein Munchen, Witte de With Rotterdam, 1997.
